Forgiveness should be an everyday attitude
Today, I am teaching on how to forgive/how to make forgiveness an everyday attitude that heal and liberate us.
First, I want you to know that Forgiveness has nothing to do with your feelings, but your decision. The first step is to decide that I refuse to be anyone’s prisoner. I refuse to be utterly exhausted, I refuse to be bitter and aggressive. My friend shared with me recently that she declares every morning…. and you may wish to emulate: I am patient, I am kind, I am not bitter, I am not easily angered, I keep no record of wrong. God, You have been forgiven, likewise You have shown me mercy, therefore I chose to be forgiving.
After you have made the decision to walk in forgiveness,
✅ Pray – Prayer is the Key🎼, Prayer is the Master Key🎼…….Jesus started with Prayer and ended with Prayer, Prayer is the Master Key🎼. This is a song I was taught as a young girl. And I sing it often to remind myself that conversing with God in prayer solves problems. Pray to God to help you embrace forgiveness. To err is human, to forgive divine. Without asking God for help after making that decision, the journey will be unachievable.
- Ask that the Holy Spirit will teach you forgiveness.
Most importantly:
- Pray for a heart after God;
- Pray for a heart that aligns with God;
- Ask God to reveal deeply to you His love for you; and
- Pray above all that You will develop the, and grow in the, fruits of the Spirit* Please read the whole of *Galatians 5.
✅ Forgive in advance- I encourage you to read Jeremiah 17 :5 and I pray you will receive the understanding that this very verse, is the wisdom of God. If you embrace the truth in this scripture and live by it, your disappointment will be limited when people fail you. It will be less when you are faced with betrayal because you have acknowledged that no human being is perfect just as you are not perfect. It is an insult to God to put trust in men, however, it is reverence to God to trust God for men….
Forgiving in advance sets you free instead of being a prisoner of the future.
I have had someone hurt me with their umbrella. She was still saying Pardon but I was already gone not even looking back because I knew it was not intentional. If I see her as perfect, or I am unforgiving, I may have said she did that to me because I am black.
Why am I sharing this experience? I share to point out that unforgiveness makes us think the worst of everyday life. We see things that are not there. No wonder the bible says in ✅Psalm 24 : 3-4a, Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who shall stand in His holy place? The answer ✅ He that hath clean hands and a pure heart.
A pure heart abhors unforgiveness. Therefore if you want to dwell in God’s holy place, you need to live a life of forgiveness.
There is one more thing you need to embrace to live forgiveness in your everyday life- read my blogpost on Boundaries.
Shalom
