AN IMPORTANT ESSENCE OF OUR EXISTENCE
Why do we exist? What is our essence? And have you ever ask yourself why you exist? You will be surprised that not everyone knows.
I have heard people responded in various ways. Someone once told me that they exist because God want them to and they went on to give a long list of their conviction.
In the midst of responding with God the Almighty, as the reason for OUR existence, I have other perspectives and I will share one – HELPING EACH OTHER.
This simply reminded me of Denzel Washingston’s quote, when you succeed, push back and pull someone up. That is what success is. So it is fair to say that one of our essence as God intends is for us to succeed in our chosen profession or businesses, in our marriage, in our relationship with friends and extended families but the question remains, can we do all these alone? Will there be a certain time you will need people to lift you up and vice versa? When you are confronted with the latter, will you willingly help or are you one who want good things for yourself alone?
Recently, an acquaintance moved away from the town I live but did not tell me. I felt bad I must confess to you. I was talking to someone one day, the person asked of her and I said she’s moved but didn’t tell me. Few days later, someone contacted me and said the acquaintance gave her my number to talk to me because she is looking for a job. I responded you are right on time, I will connect you with someone who is looking for someone who provides your kind of services and…… she got the job. I laughed at myself, here I am feeling bad, I was not told of the move, but I doubt the acquaintance sees it as a big deal. That day I gave myself a new name. An answer bringer.
This person didn’t tell me about the move but was bold enough to send someone who is looking for a job to contact me in case anything comes up. I am indeed an answer bringer.
I could have been bitter-ed and decide not to respond to the lady looking for job. If I had done that, see I am simply destroying myself, not her, because if I refuse to help her, someone else will. The only thing is that my attitude might delay her progress, but in the end she will get there.
A friend like a sister also shared her plans of starting a food business and immediately I saw that another friend just invested in the food business. I called my sister friend immediately to inform her about what I just discovered and hooked them up. I knew it was her passion and I know it will do her a lot of good learning from someone who just went through the hurdles and successfully started up.
This is one thing I have learnt from helping and supporting people. I always receive help. I always do. I am a Christian and I know most of you reading are but please let us put that aside now. Let’s talk about principles. If you do not plant, then you cannot harvest. The same goes for; if you plant maize, when harvest time comes, you harvest maize. It is as simple as that.
See, our actions are seeds that will later manifest in our lives. See, ‘in helping others, we help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us’ says Flora Edwards and I found this to be true. This has been my testimony, not only for me but my family.
If you choose not to plant, then you cannot harvest anything, but see as many seeds as you plant, so are your fruits.
I found another interesting way to look at it. Most people believes that you cannot be an employer until you own a company. I do not own a company but I am an employer because I have a baby sitter for my children. We use her services mostly when we want to rest, go out on date or sometimes for shopping and we need our sanity (smiling). Hiring the baby sitter to me is a way of not only helping ourselves but putting food on another person’s table. Have you been in a situation where you will engage people in small services and they will thank and thank you? It simply shows they need it. That is called lifting someone up or helping. Do not think it is small, leave them to decide if it is a big or small help.
Do you know some people have businesses but cannot help others to start up? They will not want you to know how you can navigate that road and have a head start. They will guard the secret of their starting up and success perhaps because they do not want you to make as much money as they make. Some will hide/withold a piece of information that can bring breakthrough to their fellow being. How I wish we can all indeed come to the realization that we bring nothing to this world and we shall take nothing when we answer the last call.
Now this is an interesting warning, if you do not have the capacity, please do not start what you cannot finish so you will not end up hurting yourself and the supposed recipient but If you have the capacity to help someone, please do it. You will not only help someone but a family, community, society, country and the world.
My best quote with helping one another, is a Chinese proverb—“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody”. You Can Do it.

When we help or lift a single person up, it will reflect in the life of his or her family members and others.
