The Second Commandment – Love

I arrived about 5 mins late to an event recently. The attendees were seated and there were no vacant seats, therefore I had to stand. I nodded in greetings to the people closer to where I was standing and they responded back with smiles. One thing was obvious, they were either family or friends.

About 10 mins after I had arrived, another woman came in, they all greeted her, smiling and exchanging few words. At the same time, one of the men stood up, so she could sit. I smiled. I said to myself chaii I would have loved to sit because of the little pain I was having in my legs.

Then I remember someone once said to me that she identifies people who truly loves God by the way they treat people they do not know.

Could this be true?

Jesus said thou shall love your God with all your soul…….. And love your neighbour as yourself.

I understand the first part without question. We have to love our creator. The Almighty who created us in His image. He first loved us by sending His son to die for our sins so that we may inherit eternity.

Now, the second part which is the second greatest commandment is the part I asked God for clarity on.

And God humoured 😃with His understanding. Jesus expect us to love our personal self and part of that self are our families, sometimes very close friends, relatives that we see as blood. If this is not so, there is clearly something wrong because He created us to love ourself. The only thing He did not ask us is to love ourself at the detriment of another, especially those we do not know or who are not part of this “self”. Jesus knows that there is that tendency to be partial or pay adequate attention when it comes to ourself. This is the reason why He started with love your neighbour….

My friends, are you fulfilling this commandment from Jesus Himself?

Will you share what God has blessed you with, with your neighbour even when it is not convenient?..Will you remain impartial in circumstances that involves yourself and a neighbour? Will you favour yourself over another when you know it is wrong to do so? Will you be bias when it comes to yourself?

You may wish to read Philippians 4: 8

Remain blessed.

Shalom
